Sakhyata is a Sanskrit word that means cooperation. It embodies the belief that by working together, we can create a better life for all of us.Sakhyata Social Enterprises is a womens’ cooperative based in the underprivileged community of Kapra in the city of Hyderabad, India. The cooperative employs approximately 50 women to make jute products and garments that are sold in India and abroad. The cooperative is overseen by an all-volunteer team, and 100% of the profits go to the organization to help continue our work.
Sakhyata’s garments unit was launched in 2017 as a branch of Sakhyata Social Enterprises. The garments unit employs 40 women from the Jawaharnagar area of Hyderabad with the aim of providing them dignified employment and a living wage. Most of the women who are employed by the unit were trained in sewing and tailoring through Sakhyata’s training programs. The unit makes a variety of different products for both commercial and individual use, including dress shirts, chefs’ coats, nightwear, khadi shirts, and ladies’ garments.
Khadi is a term that refers to handspun, handloomed cotton. Production of khadi fabric uses over 90% less water than production of conventional cotton textiles, making it a sustainable, environmentally friendly material for use in garment production. In addition to being an environmentally friendly choice, the handlooming process creates a beautiful fabric with softness and depth of color. This fabric is airy and comfortable, making it a perfect choice for both casual and formal clothing.
We have a variety of jute products for sale, including grocery bags, ladies’ purses, mens’ wallets, gift bags, and more. We are happy to make customized, screen-printed bags for special occasions as well.
